Donald Trump has been in the news more often than anybody else recently, with the exception of perhaps Kanye West. While we can all laugh at Kanye’s outrageous nonsense, we don’t have that same privilege with Trump because if people keep voting for him, he will become President Of The United States of America. Why is that such a scary thought? Even if you disregard all of the other crazy things he’s said, his latest flip-flop about the Iraq war proves just what type of President we’ll end up with.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has maintained his opposition to the Iraq war. Not only that, he’s spent a very long time telling us how he has always been against the Iraq war.In fact, Trump has pushed this point so often, I sometimes picture him lying in front of a tank in a desert somewhere, singing Bob Dylan songs and flipping his straw-like mane disapprovingly at a troop of confused soldiers. Trump often quotes an interview he from way back in 2004 where he said:
“What was the purpose of the whole thing? Hundreds and hundreds of young people killed. And what about the people coming back with no arms and no legs? Not to mention the other side. All those Iraqi kids who’ve been blown to pieces. And it turns out that all of the reasons for the war were blatantly wrong. All this for nothing!,”
The unfortunate situation is, Trump’s sensible and seemingly passionate abhorrence of the Iraq war has turned out to be as unreliable as most of his other statements, with new evidence coming to light showing his opinions really are decided by what is popular at the time and subject to change with the weather.
According to an interview with Howard Stern back in 2002 (which precedes his 2004 statements, by the way), Trump actually supported the invasion of Iraq. You can hear the audio of the interview here:
So, with this radio interview uncovered, it was left to CNN and Anderson Cooper to confront Trump about his flip-flopping attitude towards the war. Just when you think he might actually have a redeeming quality, his lack of conviction and his ability to radically alter his position on important issuest once again show just what a terrible leader he would be.
