White Privileged Republican: ‘Blacks Were Not Able To Free Themselves, Whites Did’ (VIDEO)

Right-wing talk show host Glenn Beck recently invited Ted Cruz super PAC crony David Barton on his show to “educate” his audience about Black History Month, and boy did he deliver.

Barton claimed to have found the “real” history of race relations in America. Barton is a nationally renowned racist historical whitewasher who’s a master at downplaying the horrors of white supremacy and emphasizing it’s “positive” aspects.

Barton and his kind love to teach the fiction that slaves were not widely mistreated by slave owners in fact, “the whites just thought they were one of the family.” Yes, because we all know that whites back in those days routinely horse whipped, beat, castrated, tarred and feathered, lynched, fed to alligators, burned, raped, drew and quartered, and boiled their own family members alive. And that was just during Christmas dinner. Barton declared:

‘I love the fact that in these early paintings you have, it’s black and white together. We didn’t have what we have today where we have to break you into groups somehow. Yeah, there was bad and ugly down in the South, but my gosh, why not teach the good?’

One statement Barton made that really took the cake, was crediting white voters and the white members of Congress for passing the 13th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, which effectively ended slavery. Barton stated:

‘Blacks were not able to free themselves, whites did. When you get the 13th Amendment, you know, it was nothing but two-thirds of the House, whites in the House were the only ones voting, two-thirds of the whites in the house, two-thirds of the whites in the Senate and three-fourths of the whites in the states that ratified the 13th Amendment to end slavery.

And then you have the 14th Amendment, it was nothing but two-thirds of the whites in the House, two-thirds of the whites in the Senate, three-fourths of the whites [in the states.] And so the notion that it’s black against white is not borne out by history, but we have made it that way in the way we portray history.’

Racist spin doctors like Barton are more than just online nuts, spewing nonsense. They’ve had a real impact on education in certain southern states. For example, back in 2015, the Texas board of education implemented a “revised” curriculum, teaching children that the Civil War was about “states rights” among other lies. They also introduced religion into history, teaching students that the historical figure Moses had a prominent role in the formation of the U.S.

The softening of white supremacy is an insidious and intellectually dishonest industry, spreading its tentacles across the country from churches to elementary schools. Children are being taught that evil chapters in American history such as slavery, were just “no harm, no foul” inconsequential events that are blown way out of proportion by “race baiters” and “agitators.”

Barton represents the new face of organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan. Instead of using violence and hate-filled rhetoric, he tries to intellectualize his bigotry by disguising it as “historical facts.”

Racism is alive and well in America, and it’s being propagated successfully by soft-spoken, privileged white bigots like Barton.

Here’s another example, via a YouTube video, of how Barton perverts history to deliver a pro-Republican message.
