HOUSTON, TX. SHOOTING- A Democratic Senator received a direct threat via a barrage of bullets to his office-front last night after business hours. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, but this sort of thing really makes you wonder about the extent of the violent capabilities of Republican crazies.
Senator Whitmire is a huge gun control activist who recently spoke out against the open campus carry law. This may have had something to do with the shooting, and quite the perfect way to get the message across.
The event occurred overnight at the office of Sen. John Whitmire and police are still investigating exactly what happened. Whitmire arrived with his staff Thursday morning, and upon first seeing the damages, they believed it was from a storm that had passed through the evening before.
According to the Houston Chronicle:
“Whitmire said his staff noticed the Yale Street office had been damaged when they arrived Thursday morning and first blamed the overnight storms. When a maintenance worker tried to stop a leak on the side of the house, they realized it was a bullet hole, then discovered several others.”
It wasn’t until the senator saw bullet slugs on the ground that he realized his office had been the specific target of a gun-weilding madman. It is still unclear the motive for the shooting, but it certainly rattled the staff, who now have to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
“When you look at the damage, and start tracing it, there are bullet holes here in the office, and at least four slugs… a couple of them ricocheted around. There are bullet slugs everywhere. One lodged in a framed picture. It’s pretty amazing.”
The senator went on to say that an event like this is something to worry about in this day and age; certainly the daily new stories of mass shootings that bring mass fatalities in America don’t help ease the minds of everyone involved. It is safe to say that the senator and his staff have no reason to feel safe when they come to work after the acts of a misguided and disturbed soul.
