Adolf Hitler showed up on “Conan,” Thursday, to “clear the air” (and his reputation) after so many have compared him to Republican presidential primary front-runner Donald Trump as of late.
After a brief introduction by O’Brien in which he leads his guest on-stage with, “Ladies and gentleman, here to defend himself [against the comparisons to Trump],” Sarah Silverman then walks out from behind the curtains dressed as the Fuhrer and joins Andy Richter on the couch to speak with O’Brien over the matter.
Many people have compared Trump to Hitler since he began his 2016 presidential campaign, if not before, but the recent publication of the NY Daily News covering Louis C.K.’s editorial on Trump in which he says outright, “Trump is Hitler,” has really brought the comparison to the forefront, not to mention a Vox piece on an old New York Times article making the rounds lately talking about impressions of the actual Adolf Hitler when he was campaigning back in the day.
Silverman dressed as Hitler said after sitting down, “Wow, look at that! I have to say, that’s more applause than I expected.”
The two comedians didn’t waste any time from there getting into the nitty-gritty humor of the comparison. “Hitler” said:
‘Don’t get me wrong, Conan. I agree with a lot he says—a lot. Like 90 percent of what he says, I’m like, “This guy gets it,” but I don’t like the way he says it. It’s crass.’
This coming from Adolf Hitler played by a comedian who had to apologize for wearing blackface, no less. If Trump is too crass for both Silverman and Hitler, Trump has truly gone too far.
“Trump is very, very crass,” O’Brien agreed,
“Hitler” went on from there to lament the Donald’s defending the size of his genitalia during a recent GOP debate, as well.
‘What kind of person talks about his penis size on national television. Oh yeah, I’m so sure Donald Trump has a big penis. I famously have a micro penis. That’s what makes a tyrant.’
‘Anyway, all these comparisons to Trump, it’s like, it bums me out. You know what I mean? Sometimes I watch him and I’m like, “Is that how people see me?”‘
Leave it to Trump to create the social conditions for almost making you sympathize for one of the world’s most notorious, blood-thirsty fascists via a sad fake Hitler joke. Folks would rather jokingly contemplate longing for the “good old days” of Hitler fascism than face the current fascist right before them, and one well on his way to winning the presidency.
The Silverman “Hitler” concluded:
‘I have to be honest. Trump, he’s starting to make me rethink some of the things I’ve done… Ah, who am I kidding? I’ve gotta be me!’
Hitler’s “gotta be me” and Trump’s “gotta be” Trump, but America sure as hell doesn’t “gotta” let him be president. Let him play fascist over his own, routinely failing, companies.
