Lately, it seems that Donald Trump has been getting into a lot of Twitter beef, publicly voicing his opinions regarding fellow politicians and even the media. From his downright vile comments toward Fox News’ Megyn Kelly to his racist remarks toward Elizabeth Warren, if the businessman is good at one thing, it’s taking to Twitter to air his dirty laundry.
Tuesday, Trump decided to attack his fellow Presidential hopeful, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). The two have had an ongoing, child-like rivalry as they make their way along the campaign trail, but this time, Trump decided to make things personal.
After a photo of Trump’s wife, Melania, posing adult for the cover of GQ magazine went viral, Trump decided to take to Twitter to pull Ted Cruz’s wife into the mix.
The infamous businessman tweeted that Cruz ought to “be careful” or that he would “spill the beans on [his] wife,” Heidi Cruz.
The tweet read:
‘Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!’
According to CNN, Trump had tweeted a similar tweet just minutes earlier, but quickly deleted it before sending this one:
The tweet Trump is referring to is actually an “Anti Donald Trump” ad put together by a conservative super-PAC targeted towards Mormons in Utah. The ad plays on the religious beliefs of many Mormons, urging them not to vote for the billionaire businessman.
The super-PAC, called “Make America Awesome,” prefers Ted Cruz, although it advocates voting for “anyone but Trump.”
But Cruz wasn’t long to field a response to The Donald’s accusation, tweeting that the ad wasn’t from him and that Trump would be a “coward” if he went after his wife, Heidi. Cruz even included the hashtag “#classless” to describe Trump’s accusations toward the Cruz family.
Heidi Cruz, who has been hitting the campaign trail alongside her husband, is a senior executive for Goldman Sachs, according to CNN. The businesswoman took time off work to campaign for her husband’s presidency, and is one of the campaign’s biggest fundraisers.
Heidi Cruz hasn’t exactly been silent in response to the many attacks lobbed her husband’s way, telling CNN’s Dana Bash:
‘Well, as you probably know by now, most of the things, many of the things others say are not based in reality.’
Later during the interview with CNN she went on to say:
‘I have one job on this campaign, and it is to be helping Ted win this race. And it is, I think, the easiest job in the world, and that is to speak the truth: what I know about my husband, our family, myself.’
Heidi also denied that the Cruz campaign had anything to do with the photo of Melania Trump, saying:
‘In no shape or form are we related to it.’
Trump continues to call Ted Cruz a liar, taking to Twitter to publicly voice yet another one of his opinions:
