Republican Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump really hates one specific federal department above all others. The problem is that the agency he loathes so much, does not exist. The hotel magnate hates the nonexistent department so much that on a Fox News town hall Monday night, he vowed to eliminate it.
Again though, the agency does not exist. Details shmetails, just get rid of it! Trump promised to eliminate the “Department of Environmental,” whatever that is.
Talking Points Memo reports:
When asked by Fox host Sean Hannity if he would eliminate any federal departments as President, Trump responded “largely, we can eliminate the Department of Education,” a common refrain among conservatives.
But he went on: “Department of Environmental, I mean, the DEP is killing us environmentally, it’s just killing our businesses.”
Trump was likely referring to the Environmental Protection Agency, but his campaign did not respond to a TPM inquiry about what agency he meant to invoke.
Watch, uploaded by Erick Erickson:
Donald Trump says the Department of Environmental is hurting businesses. It’s “killing us environmentally,” he said of the imaginary agency.
This reminds us of someone else.
After Congressman Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) won his GOP House primary in 2012 he said, “government needs to have a limited role in our lives.” In 2013, he spoke of the four branches of Government. But there isn’t a fourth branch. We have the Legislative, the executive and the Judicial branch. Mullin belongs to the legislative branch, by the way. He’s now part of the government he hates.
But it all sounds really good to Conservatives. The government their politicians work for is bad, so make it smaller. Get rid of all federal agencies even if they do not exist. The talking points are all there so they garner more support. The Dumbification of America has begun.
