Reports this morning confirm a male employee was found dead at the Cupertino headquarters of Apple. It’s not clear exactly how the incident occurred, but sheriffs were dispatched to the scene around 8:30 am where they declared the man deceased on arrival.

Details surrounding the incident are unclear; however, Broadcastify.com obtained a recording of the dispatch call which suggests a female employee was escorted out of the building by security on the morning of the death. The recording indicates that the female employee somehow sustained a head injury, possibly from some involvement with a gun. The dispatcher then mentions a dead body found in a conference room in proximity to a gun. What involvement, if any, the female employee had with this tragedy has yet to be determined.

Sgt. Andrea Urena of the Santa Clara County Sherrif’s Office, in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, said:

‘Through further investigation, they determined there was no other individuals involved and they believe it was an isolated incident. There was no one else on campus or in the public at risk’

The police are not currently looking for any suspects concerning the incident. The investigation has been handed over to the coroner’s office, who will work to determine the cause of death and hopefully provide some insight into how and why this occurred.

This tragic loss of life comes on top of more bad news for Apple, as earlier this week the music and phone innovators announced a decline in revenue for the first time in 13 years. The company reported a 13% fall in revenue and shares dropped by 7% in the wake of the news. Apple was expecting a decline and had earlier prepared investors for the slump. The iPhone creators predict a further decline, due in part to the struggles impacting the Chinese economy. Apple CEO Tim Cook said:

‘Despite the pause in our growth, our results reflect excellent execution by our team despite strong macroeconomic headwinds in most of the world’

There’s no suggestion that the two news reports are linked in any way. Apple may just be experiencing two unfortunate and tragic but completely isolated events occurring in close proximity to one another. Apple released the following statement about the fatality:

‘We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young and talented coworker. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the many people he worked with here at Apple’

We will have to wait for the coroner’s report before we can attempt to understand why this tragedy happened. At the moment, all signs indicate a suicide, but we won’t know for certain until the authorities complete their investigation.
