Donald Trump, for all his tough talk, has refused to debate Bernie Sanders. Trump said he’d love to debate Sanders, but that he won’t do it unless they can raise $10 million for charity since he believes Sanders will lose the Democratic nomination.

‘Oh, I’d love to debate Bernie. He’s a dream. Well, I said, and I said last night on Jimmy’s show, it was a question that was posed, and I said I’d love to debate him, but I’d want a lot of money to be put up for charity, so what we’ll do is if we can raise maybe for women’s health issues or something if we can raise $10 or $15 million for charity, which would be a very appropriate amount. I understand the television business very well. It would get very high ratings. It should be in a big arena somewhere, and we could have a lot of fun with it. I’d love to debate Bernie. Actually, I mean the problem with debating Bernie is that he’s gonna lose.’

It’s interesting that Trump has suddenly backed out of the debate considering all his talk of how he’d love to debate Sanders. Perhaps he doesn’t want the bad press going into the Republican National Convention.

In an interview today, Sanders called out Trump asking “What are you afraid of?” The interview can be seen here:

Numerous posters on Twitter have also called out Trump for chickening out on the debate after spending so much time playing the tough guy who won’t back down from China or Putin. The question remains: If Trump can’t face Sanders, then how can he face Putin?

Trump probably wasn’t expecting anyone to take him up on his offer, but a tech firm recently did. The Hill, has reported that Traction and Scale has offered $10 million in exchange for the rights to host the debate between Trump and Sanders. Now that his conditions have been met, it will be interesting to see if he’s willing to go through with the debate or if he’ll come up with another reason to chicken out.
