After a 3-year-old boy slipped into a gorilla’s enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo on Saturday, Harambe, the name given to the animal, dragged the child further down into the moat. To many, it appeared as if the gorilla was trying to help the child. Harambe stood the child up and pulled up his pants. At one point, the animal had the 3-year-old between his legs while hovering over him.
Officials were concerned that the child was in “imminent danger,” though, and made the decision to shoot Harambe. There are two lines of thinking here regarding the death of the animal. Some say it’s not the fault of the parents, while others blame them.
One witness said she heard the boy joke with his mother about going into the moat, but the Mom was briefly distracted by other children who were with her. Suddenly, the boy was in the water and the situation accelerated quickly.
The child’s parents have now been identified as Michelle Gregg, 32, and Deonne Dickerson, 37, a black couple. Naturally, Conservatives are dropping racist comments now. Matt Drudge posted a link on Facebook to Conservative Outfitters, who identified the parents and alleged that the father has a criminal history.
One commenter wrote, “They were smoking crack” while another stated, “Don’t know why they shot the gorilla. Clearly the gorilla thought the child was one of its own kin and would’ve done a better job raising it.”
Another, obviously speaking in Cabbage, blamed Black Lives Matter while another wrote “We have the HONOR to kill a negro thug.” (Republican caps, his)
On the ‘Black under privileged [sic] card,’ whatever that is, Louis had this to say:
On ‘race baiters’:
The ‘black racist agenda’:
Racial slurs poured in.
Here are the facts.
A witness described the incident on Facebook and said, “This mother was not negligent and the zoo did an awesome job handling the situation! Especially since that had never happened before!” “Thankful for the zoo and their attempts and my thoughts and prayers goes out to this boy, his mother and his family,” she added.
Cincinnati police said that they had no intention of charging the family because they don’t believe a crime was committed.
One thing Conservative Outfitters fails to mention is how recent the father’s history of run-ins with the law is. The site only mentions that Mr. Dickerson’s criminal history is “over the past decade,” meaning that he may have changed his ways and his last arrest may have occurred ten years ago. People do change. Also, becoming a father sometimes helps that process along.
I agree with Angie Finnigan, who wrote, “What does the Father’s criminal record have to do with any of this? I can’t stand it when the media stirs the pot like this!!!”
