At his nearly sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York, Marc Anthony didn’t hold back about how he feels about Donald Trump.
Before moving on to his final song for the evening, Anthony shouted to the crowd, “F*ck Donald Trump!” He added, “I want him to hear it in his house. Wake that motherf*cker up.”
Anthony’s words and hatred for Trump didn’t just come out of nowhere, though. Prior to sharing his feelings about the now-presumptive Republican nominee, Anthony delivered a passionate speech to the audience about Latino unity and pride, something of which Trump has not exactly been known to be a proponent. He told the crowd:
‘I’m proud to be Latino in the United States of America. I see Peruvian flags, Uruguay. I see Panama. I see the Dominican Republic … Let me tell you something: We’re all proud of our culture.’
He also encouraged all Latinos, regardless of how they speak, or their differing customs, to stand together.
‘But here, no matter where you come from, we’re Latinos! And we have to take care of each other. No matter where we come from.’
It’s no surprise that Anthony has less than fond feelings for Trump. After all, Donald Trump did call all Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals — that’s something you can’t really come back from, even if you post a photo of yourself eating a taco salad and saying you love Hispanics. The man has definitely earned the disrespect of the 77% — which Marc Anthony is certainly a part of — of Latinos who view him unfavorably.
Marc Anthony is not the first Latino celebrity to denounce Donald Trump. Back in February of 2016, nearly two dozen Latino celebrities and civil rights leaders released an open letter encouraging Latino voters to reject the GOP and “vote for candidates who support our community.” Included in that group were America Ferrera, Benjamin Bratt, George Lopez, Aubrey Plaza and Zoe Saldana, Carlos Santana, and labor leader Dolores Huerta, who is a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient.
