Donald Trump is in full damage control mode after making comments about Mexican-American Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the presiding judge in the ongoing Trump University case. Trump believes Curiel is biased against him because of his Mexican heritage and Trump’s plans to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall.
During a rally in Richmond, Virginia on Friday evening, Trump said the following:
‘You know, I have the theme “Make America Great Again,” and I’ve added a couple of things.’
‘Right now I’m adding make America great again — I’m adding “for everyone,” because it’s really going to be for everyone. It’s not going to be for a group of people, it’s going to be for everyone. It’s true.’
He spoke to the high unemployment rates among Hispanics and African-Americans, telling the crowd:
‘We’re going to make it great for everyone, folks. We’re going to bring jobs back to our country.’
Lately, in an attempt to seem more “presidential,” Trump has apparently reevaluated his campaign strategy to help him to appeal to racial minorities. Although, despite his reluctance to issue a formal apology to Judge Curiel for his previous comments, Trump still maintains that he isn’t racist.
‘I am the least racist person. The least racist person that you’ve ever seen. I mean give me a break. I am the least racist person that you’ve ever looked at, believe me.’
He spoke at an evangelical leadership conference on Friday prior to the rally, and said the following during a scripted speech:
‘Freedom of any kind means no one should be judged by their race or their color.’
But it seems The Donald can’t even manage to stick to his word, as he went on to issue another attack against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) during the very same speech:
‘Pocahontas is not happy. She’s not happy. She’s the worst. I’m doing such a disservice to Pocahontas, it’s so unfair to Pocahontas. But this Elizabeth Warren, I call her goofy Elizabeth Warren, she’s one of the worst senators in the entire United States Senate.’
