There have been some new developments in the case of the Baton Rouge police shooting. The shooter has been identified as Gavin Eugene Long, a 29-year-old black male. Long was a member of the United States Marine Corps, but he was honorably discharged in 2010.
The shooter’s motives are still uncertain, but CBS is reporting that he posted Youtube videos discussing the nature of oppression and revolution.
Long said in one video:
‘Let’s just go with the numbers, let’s go with the history, 100 percent of revolutions of victims fighting their oppressors, from victims fighting their bullies, 100 percent have been successful through fighting back, through bloodshed. Zero have been successful just over simply protesting. It has never worked and it never will, you gotta fight back. That’s the only way a bully knows to quit, he doesn’t know words.’
‘If y’all want to keep protesting, do that, but for the serious ones, the real ones, the alpha ones, we know what it’s going to take, it’s only fighting back or money that’s all they care about. Revenue and blood … nothing else. You’re in a world that’s run by devils.’
Some reports also indicate that Long might have been a member of right-wing militia groups such as the New Freedom Group or the Sovereign Citizens movement. Long was also a former member of the Nation of Islam, but in a recent Youtube video he said he was no longer affiliated with them or any other group.
One of the videos found on Long’s channel discusses a conspiracy theory known as “gang stalking.” People who believe in gang stalking consider themselves “targeted individuals” and believe that government agents are following them around trying to manipulate and control their lives.
Long even wrote a guide to help those who believed themselves to be victims of gang stalking, encouraging them to wear body cameras and to start calling out businesses that are aiding the supposed government agents.
‘…Start telling the companies’s, worker’s, & managers & owners that we are going to expose your involvement and rate your poor performances & games on the internet on sites like Yelp, Google Map’s & the Yellow Pages etc. as horrible service & accessories to Gang Stalking. (Not only will this spread the word to others who view the businesses, but will inform fellow T.I.s as well).’
While we do not not know what the shooter’s motivation was, most reports indicate that the shooting was not racially motivated. Considering Long’s belief that he was being tracked by government agents, it’s possible he saw attacking the police as a way of striking out at the government that was supposedly controlling his life.
