Melania Trump’s and RNC candidate Donald Trump’s marriage is in crisis after someone in the campaign handed her a plagiarized speech. Not only was it word-for-word plagiarized in part, someone lifted it from Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech about her husband President Obama. Melania Trump is not happy.
Donald Trump gave his wife high marks on Twitter last night, saying her speech was “absolutely incredible.” It should be interesting to see what happens to the staff person who was assigned to help Melania Trump with her speech. An NBC source within the campaign said:
‘It’s piss-poor staff work. Melania has been humiliated. No doubt heads are going to roll.
‘Not paying attention to details — that costs elections.’
Just hours before she appeared before the world to give the most important speech of her life, Melania Trump told NBC’s Matt Lauer:
‘I wrote [my RNC speech] with as little help as possible.’
The billionaire’s wife’s speech was already a sensitive issue, because she is shy and uncomfortable in the public eye. MSNBC reports that she boycotted the event announcing Mike Pence as VP. The reason was she felt as if the campaign and his family forced her husband to select Pence.
She hardly ever agrees to do interviews or appear at public rallies. But that is not unheard of. When Governor Howard Dean ran for president in 2004, his wife was rarely involved in his events. Of course, she is a physician.
For some reason, Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort told CBS News there was “no cribbing” of the real estate mogul’s wife:
‘Certainly there is no feeling on [Melania’s] part that she did it. What she did is use words that are common words.’
MSNBC reported that national campaign co-chair Sam Clovis said the speech should have been put through the anti-plagiarism software program:
‘I’m sure action will be taken inside the campaign to make sure it will never happen again.’
The billionaire’s wife gave a fine, if plagiarized speech, to 35 million people Monday night. Melania Trump is an intelligent woman, who speaks five languages and has her own business, designing jewelry. Too bad that the story all day Tuesday was about the plagiarism instead of the woman.
It should be interesting to see what happens next, how this impacts Melania Trump and what she decides to do after this major humiliation.
