On Tuesday night, Twitter permanently banned conservative personality Milo Yiannopoulos. Yiannopoulos serves as the tech editor for the right-wing website Breitbart.com
He has been banned not only for his own actions, but for encouraging his followers to engage in harassment and abuse. The most recent attacks were centered around Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones. The actress received multiple tweets attacking her and sending truly disgusting images.
Ok I have been called Apes, sent pics of their asses, even got a pic with semen on my face. I'm tryin to figure out what human means. I'm out

Jones also sent out a series of tweets explaining her side of the story.
‘I used to wonder why some celebs don’t have Twitter accts. Now I know. You can’t be nice and communicate with fans ‘cause people crazy. As much as I love live-tweeting, posting the pics of awesome things that happen in this life I’ve been blessed with, I don’t know anymore…’
In response to these attacks, Twitter banned Yiannopoulous and several of his followers. They also issued a statement clarifying their stance on personal attacks and hate speech.
‘People should be able to express diverse opinions and beliefs on Twitter. But no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online, and our rules prohibit inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others. Over the past 48 hours in particular, we’ve seen an uptick in the number of accounts violating these policies and have taken enforcement actions against these accounts, ranging from warnings that also require the deletion of Tweets violating our policies to permanent suspension…’
Yiannopoulos claims Twitter’s actions are violating his free speech and went on a truly bizarre rant calling Twitter a safe haven for “Muslim terrorists” but no place for conservatives.
‘With the cowardly suspension of my account, Twitter has confirmed itself as a safe space for Muslim terrorists and Black Lives Matter extremists, but a no-go zone for conservatives…
‘This is the end for Twitter. Anyone who cares about free speech has been sent a clear message: you’re not welcome on Twitter.’
Yiannopoulos claims Twitter is a “no-go zone” for conservatives, but a quick search will show that Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and, of course, Republican nominee Donald Trump are all quite welcome and active on Twitter.
