CNN host Jake Tapper spoke with Donald Trump, Jr. today about possible involvement from Russian hackers implicated in breaking into and leaking DNC emails. Tapper was referring to claims made by Robby Mook, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager.
‘What’s disturbing to us is that experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and other experts are now saying that the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually helping Donald Trump.’
Mook cited the timing of the release of the emails, less than a week before the Democratic National Convention, as suspicious, as well as the assurance by experts that the hackers were from Russia after pro-Russian policies were added to the RNC’s platform just last week. Fortune Magazine disagrees with this assumption from Mook.
‘those claims largely rely on circumstantial evidence, including Julian Assange’s short-lived talk show on Russia’s state-controlled RT network.’
Tapper asked Trump, Jr. to respond to the controversy, and the son of GOP nominee Donald Trump went on the most hypocritical rant imaginable.
‘It’s disgusting, it’s so phony. I watched them bumble through the interview, I was able to hear it on audio a little bit. I can’t think of bigger lies, but that exactly goes to show you what the DNC and what the Clinton camp will do […] I don’t mind a fair fight, but these lies and the perpetuating of that kind of nonsense to try to gain some political capital is just outrageous and he should be ashamed of himself. If a Republican did that, they’d be calling for people to bring out the electric chair.’
Does this mean that someone in the Trump campaign knows that repeating stories that may or may not be based in fact is wrong? Has anyone told their nominee?
Have they forgotten the time that Donald Trump decided to repeat a National Enquirer story to voters that said that Ted Cruz’s father was linked to JFK’s assassination? Have they forgotten that Trump accused Hillary Clinton of murder while announcing his vice presidential pick to his voters? What about the time Trump blamed Muslim immigrants for the Orlando nightclub shooting before anyone knew who the shooter was, and then he turned out to be an American-born citizen?
You’re right, Junior. People who perpetuate lies should be ashamed of themselves. Basing a whole campaign on them is even worse.
