DNC Comes To Momentary Stop As Former CIA Director Leon Panetta HECKLED During Speech

Anti-war protesters shouted down former defense secretary and CIA director Leon Panetta at the Democratic National Convention [DNC] on Wednesday. During his speech, one section of the delegates began chanting, “No More War! No More War!”

Convention organizers were forced to turn off the lights in the section of the Wells Fargo arena where the protesters were sitting. At that point, the protesters had to use their cellphones for light, according to The Guardian.

The former CIA director was speaking of his support for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee. His experience made him particularly adept at assessing the security needs regarding Donald Trump’s recent comments encouraging Russian president Vladimir Putin to hack into U.S. government servers.

The former defense secretary went on to explain why he believes Clinton is the best choice in the upcoming election:

‘In this election, there is only one candidate for president who has the experience, temperament and judgment to be Commander-in-Chief, and that is Hillary Clinton.’

Panetta also gave concrete examples of Clinton’s skills, specifically her support in the decision to take out Osama bin Laden, even though there was less than a 50/50 chance of success:

‘Hillary was clear: We have to go after Bin Laden – and said she was determined to defeat Isis, al-Qaida, Boko Haram, al-Shabaab, terrorists who pervert the teachings of Islam to kill innocent people.’

He continued, speaking about the audacity of Trump’s claim of foreign policy experience:

‘Meanwhile, Donald Trump says he gets his foreign policy experience from watching TV and running the Miss Universe pageant. If only it were funny.’

‘It is deadly serious. Donald Trump asks our troops to commit war crimes, endorses torture, spurns allies from Europe to Asia, suggests more countries to have nuclear weapons, and praises dictators from Saddam Hussein to Vladimir Putin.’

Panetta spoke to Trump’s instability:

‘Donald Trump cannot become our Commander-in-Chief. In an unstable world, we cannot afford an unstable leader. This is no time to gamble with American security.’

‘If we care about our security and our freedoms… there is only one choice, Hillary Clinton.’

The chants began to drown out Panetta, but he labored on:

‘Donald Trump cannot become Commander-in-Chief. We cannot put an erratic finger on our nuclear weapons. This is no time to roll the dice and gamble.’

At that point, the chants turned to “USA! USA!” After Panetta left the stage, the convention organizers turned back on the lights for the chanting section, which appeared to contain Oregon supporters.
