The Trumps are quickly becoming synonymous with the word “clueless,” but this statement really takes the cake.
Eric Trump appeared on “CBS This Morning” today to defend his father’s statements about sexual harassment. Donald Trump said that he hopes his daughter, Ivanka, would simply “find another career or find another company” if she was ever sexually harassed in the workplace.
Donald Trump’s statements were clueless regarding the frequency and pervasiveness of what women face from employers, but his son, Eric, topped even that. Insinuating that only weak women would accept sexual harassment, Eric Trump defended his father’s statements.
‘I think what he’s saying is, Ivanka is a strong, powerful woman, she wouldn’t allow herself to be objected to it […] I don’t think she would allow herself to be subjected to that. I think that’s a point he was making, and I think he did so well.’
According to Eric Trump, one in three women in this country are weak. Those numbers appear to be significantly higher on the Fox News network as a result of Donald Trump’s close pal, Roger Ailes, whom Trump has consistently defended. That may be because Donald Trump has also had his share of sexual harassment lawsuits brought against him.
Donald and Eric Trump don’t seem to understand that Ivanka Trump wouldn’t quit a job or a career over sexual harassment simply because she’s a “strong woman.” She’d quit or give up a career because she’s privileged enough that she and her children wouldn’t starve as a result. Ivanka Trump, as the daughter of a famous and powerful man, enjoys a certain sort of leverage and power that most women, despite their salaries, never will.
Twitter users were understandably both enraged by and disdainful of Eric Trump’s cluelessness.
Since Eric Trump thinks that people bring on sexual harassment themselves, I’d like to invite him to go fuck himself.

#EricTrump, Ivanka can’t stop sexual harassment by “not allowing” it any more than that leopard couldn’t “not allow” being murdered 4 sport

Perhaps the most powerful response, though, came from a woman who has stated publicly that she suffered sexual harassment on the job and has become a prime example of how women who come forward are perceived and devalued by the public.
