On July 27, following an altercation that ended with him throwing his wife to the ground, Lawrence Littman, 78, was arrested. The subject of the altercation? Politics.
According to The Smoking Gun, the Florida man became so angry during an argument about politics with his wife, Elvia Littman, 73, that he reportedly, “called her many derogatory names then grabbed her wrist and threw her on a chair in the bedroom.” When Elvia tried to escape her husband, he “followed her, grabbed her by the arm again and slung her to the ground.”
The couple, who have been married for 20 years, was specifically arguing about the 2016 presidential election, which has been seemingly more divisive than most.
Lawrence Littman is a registered Republican who plans to vote for Donald Trump in November. Elvia Littman is a registered Democrat who is planning on voting for Hillary Clinton.
When Lawrence tried to defend his actions to the police, he told them that his wife had “tried to slap him in the face,” so he “shoved her back and she slipped and fell to the ground.”
A report released by The Smoking Gun reveals that Littman was arrested for battery of a person over 65. He plead not guilty and was released on a $500 bond. However, he has been ordered not to contact his wife.

While Donald Trump himself is not responsible for Littman’s violence against his wife, Trump’s supporters have, throughout the election, come across as more violent than most.
In April of this year, Slate released a list of violent incidents that had occurred at Donald Trump rallies and events. To be fair, Trump’s supporters have also experienced violence at the hands of protesters, and the list includes such incidents. However, the anger that Trump’s supporters have expressed towards those who oppose him is shocking, to say the least.
Just a couple of examples of such violence include Trump supporters pepper-spraying protesters outside of a rally in San Diego and a Trump supporter sucker-punching and kicking a protester at a rally in Tucson, Arizona. Footage from that rally can be seen below:
