Planned Parenthood Makes Election Altering Announcement, Republicans OUTRAGED!

The anti-choice “Christian” Right’s chickens are coming home to roost. On Friday, Planned Parenthood announced their plan to register voters online, at clinics, on college campuses, and in other locations.

Of course, Planned Parenthood intends to help all comers register to vote “regardless of their background, beliefs, or political ideology.” But, as Laura Bassett from the Huffington Post points out, this “will likely benefit Democrats and Hillary Clinton, who have repeatedly defended Planned Parenthood against Republican efforts to defund and discredit it.”

‘The non-partisan campaign, called “My Vote, My Voice,” has the potential to reach a lot of people who don’t normally vote in presidential campaigns. Volunteers across 45 states will set up “action” tables outside of Planned Parenthood health centers and other locations in the community to sign people up to vote, educate them about voter ID laws in their states, and then remind them two weeks before the November election to vote.’

Planned Parenthood’s women’s health clinics serve 2.5 million patients each year. Many of them hail from the exact low-income, young and non-white demographics targeted by the GOP’s photo ID laws and other voter suppression tactics.

This Planned Parenthood drive to register voters also very intentionally coincides with the 51st anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. This crown jewel of the Civil Rights Movement was gutted by a disastrous 2013 Supreme Court decision. Still, the future of voter rights looks brighter since Justice Antonin Scalia’s untimely demise in February.

Erin Carhart, the manager of youth organizing for Planned Parenthood, told HuffPo:

‘Our purpose is to engage historically disenfranchised communities. Our hope is to encourage folks to participate in democracy.’

In other words, the pro-choice movement is doing what the anti-choice movement has done for decades: Getting out the vote.

Planned Parenthood’s plan to get voters registered has conservatives in a panic.

Naturally, this new drive to register voters has so-called “pro-lifers” in a panic. A hysterical headline from Life News shrieks, “Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinics Will Register Voters in One Room, Abort Them in Another,” then goes on to “report”:

‘Planned Parenthood has found its champion in Clinton, who promised them that she would repeal the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to fund abortions.’

And — horror of horrors — this “abortion giant” also seeks to get Hillary Clinton elected as president. Clinton will then be free to “nominate up to four U.S. Supreme Court justices” who would protect women’s reproductive rights for generations to come.

In the wake of Planned Parenthood’s Friday announcement, the hordes of anti-choice Twitter trolls have come out of the woodwork. Their latest claim is that Planned Parenthood is an evil plot to murder black fetuses. That narrative comes in handy when you need to distract people from the GOP’s war on women. Especially women of color.

Oh! Planned Parenthood is registering voters. Let’s tweet an irrelevant conspiracy theory from some NFL player.

Because, all of the sudden, conservatives care about black babies, at least until they’re born.

And how is registering people to vote a “cynical” act? Nice try.
