Former Sen. Gordon Humphrey (R-N.H.) has long voiced his horror at the never-ending freak show that is Donald Trump. But his latest message to the GOP’s leadership shows a renewed sense of urgency.

When Trumpelthinskin tried to sic “Second Amendment people” on Hillary Clinton, he crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed.

Politico reports that Gordon Humphrey sent a scathing email on Tuesday to New Hampshire’s three Republican National Committee (RNC) reps, exhorting them to dump Donald Trump before it’s too late.

In his email, Gordon Humphrey urged state party chair Jennifer Horn, committeeman Steve Duprey, and committeewoman Juliana Bergeron to invoke Rule 9. As Politico helpfully explains:

‘Rule 9 of the national GOP rules permits RNC leaders to fill presidential candidate vacancies “which may occur by death, declination, or otherwise.” Humphrey argues that the word “otherwise” would apply to Trump’s case.’

That’s right. Gordon Humphrey believes Donald Trump is mentally ill and therefore unfit to serve as president. Since the screen grab in the above tweet is barely readable, here’s the full text below.

And then, in an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Humphrey dropped a bombshell, calling Donald Trump a “nutcake” and a “looney bird.”

‘[The Hillary death threat] only reinforces again what so many of us have been saying, that Donald Trump is possessed of an unbalanced mind. In the common parlance, the man is a nut cake, he is a looney bird. And it would be the height of irresponsibility to elevate him to the presidency. It would be recklessness to make him commander in chief.’

Wow.

In his phone interview with Politico about his explosive email, Humphrey declared:

‘If this is not the straw that breaks the camel’s back, if this outrage is not sufficient to inspire courage in the Republican leadership, not just Reince Priebus but Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan, then surely the Republican Party has lost its moral conscience.’

Nice try, Gordon Humphrey. Alas, the Republican Party lost its “moral conscience” decades ago when it began fomenting racism to wage their war on women, people of color, the middle class, and the poor.

Naturally, these RNC reps refused to listen to this former Senator and long-time mover-and-shaker in N.H. politics. In yet another example of Republicans putting party over country, they flat out rejected his proposal. Juliana Bergeron told Politico:

‘While I have the greatest respect for Senator Humphrey, it is time to support the Republican candidate or we will be watching Hillary’s inauguration. That said, I do sometimes wish Mr. Trump would choose his words more carefully so they could not be misconstrued.’

Unlike Gordon Humphrey, they’d rather risk destroying our nation — and possibly the world — as we know it than let Hillary Clinton win the White House.

This is not the first time we’ve heard Gordon Humphrey sound the alarms about the looming threat of Donald Trump in the White House. He backed John Kasich at the RNC and worked hard to derail Trump’s nomination. And in early August, Humphrey told NBC News that he thinks Mein Trumpf is a sociopath.

‘I am ever more confirmed in my belief that Trump is a sociopath, without a conscience or feelings of guilt, shame or remorse. And he is pathologically insecure, recklessly attacking anyone who does not confirm him as the best there is. To imagine Trump in charge of our armed forces at a moment of crisis is frightening.’

Gordon Humphrey is so adamant about denying Donald Trump the White House, he’ll even vote for Hillary Clinton if he has to.
