On Monday night, columnist Charles Blow got very upset when discussing the Republican presidential nominee’s disdainful comments towards African-American people. Last Friday, Donald Trump gave a speech in Dimondale, Michigan, where he, quite obviously, attempted to appeal to African-American voters.
Trump asked the predominantly white audience:
‘You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed — what the hell do you have to lose?’
During “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon,” Blow responded to Trump’s comments while speaking to Trump’s National Diversity Coalition chairman, Bruce Lavell.
‘Here’s the deal, Donald Trump is a bigot. There’s no other way to get around it.’
Lavell disagreed with Blow’s statement.
Blow added that if anyone continues to support Trump’s bigotry, they are also promoting it, and that makes them part of the bigotry itself. He also told Lavell that he has to decide whether or not if he wants to be part of the bigotry that is Donald Trump.
Blow continued, urging Lavell:
‘You have to decide whether you want to be part of the sexism and misogyny that is Donald Trump. You have to decide whether you want to be part of the bullying that would allow him to make fun of one of my disabled colleagues at the New York Times. You have to decide that. There is no other space for you. There is no place for you to say, “I’m going to put that to the side because I believe in conservative principles.”’
Blow told Lavell that the Republican Party has chosen a con-man as their frontrunner for the White House, and it’s up to them to decide if they want to support the regular flow of hate that comes from Trump’s mouth, or not.
Lavell rebutted Blow’s statement by accusing Hillary Clinton’s campaign of distorting the public’s perception of Donald Trump.
‘I’m not part of the Clinton campaign, I’m a black man in America. And I know a bigot when I see a bigot. And you are supporting a bigot. And that makes you part of the bigotry that is Donald Trump.’
