Doubling down on staining Donald Trump with the brush of racism, the Democratic nominee for president, Hillary Clinton decided to cut to the chase and call Trump supporters out for what they truly must be: deplorable.

On Friday night, Clinton spoke to a group of donors and called out those still supporting Donald Trump after over a year of his racist, xenophobic, and sexist campaign messages.

The Republican nominee has absolutely no experience in public service, and despite his decades of “branding,” is not particularly successful in business, either, with four bankruptcies and now several lawsuits against his failed businesses. So it beggars belief that there would be anything in a Trump presidency to appeal to common sense. Yet, Trump still receives a great deal of voter support through his simple messages of paranoia against an imagined enemy.

On Friday, Clinton attempted to describe how this message has worked on average Americans, fearful in the face of an uncertain global economy. According to CNN, she even encouraged her supporters to empathize with them. Clinton said:

‘To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. “Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it.

‘And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric.’

CNN provided a video of the controversial speech:

Clinton then goes on to to explain that some Trump supporters — the other basket — are those that feel let down by the government and disappointed with the economy.

Previously, in an interview with Channel 2 News Israel that aired on Thursday, Clinton said:

‘If I were to be grossly generalistic, I would say you can take Trump supporters and put them in two big baskets. There are what I call the deplorables — the racists, you know, the haters, and the people who are drawn because they think somehow he’s going to restore an America that no longer exists. So just eliminate them from your thinking, because we’ve always had an annoying prejudicial element within our politics.’

Clinton spokesman, Nick Merrill, went on Twitter to clarify the statement from Clinton, noting that the speech referred to the most extremely divisive groups backing Donald Trump, such as the alt-right movement, the KKK, and other white supremacist groups.

The Trump campaign was enraged. Taking to Twitter on Saturday, as the amateur politician often does, Donald Trump tweeted:

‘Wow, Hillary Clinton was SO INSULTING to my supporters, millions of amazing, hard working people. I think it will cost her at the Polls!’

Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, also took to social media to comment on Clinton’s remarks:

The truth is, Trump is a businessman, and essentially doesn’t care who votes for him. Trump has tapped into a small, mean-spirited, and ugly side of American culture, and doesn’t care. A vote is a vote, as far as here’s concerned. And points to Hillary Clinton for calling him out on it.
