The Clinton Presidential Library has released 22 images of Donald Trump and Bill Clinton chatting it up on more than one occasion. The photos were made public Friday following a Freedom of Information Act request from POLITICO. The images showed the then president visiting the Trump Tower in June 2000, and during the U.S. Open Tournament in September, 2000.
Bill Clinton’s visit to the Trump Tower in June 2000 was a political charity for Rep. Ed Towns (D-N.Y.). Towns later said in an interview that he recalls Donald coming to the event and was conversing with him almost the entire time. It was so bad, that even the donors attending the charity became impatient while waiting to have their time with the president.
‘I remember one thing that was very negative for me: I promised the people they’d be able to take pictures with President Clinton, and Donald Trump came and monopolized all of the time,’ Towns said. ‘Donald had him in the corner and tied him up. I’ll never forget that moment.’
The photo above shows the two men in a private box at the tennis tournament with their arms around Trump’s then-girlfriend, Melania, and his ex-girlfriend, swimsuit model Kylie Bax. This picture just goes to show how buddy-buddy the two once were.
These pictures can be compared to the ones taken in 2005, when Bill and Hillary Clinton attended Donald and Melania Trump’s wedding. The photos showed the couples enjoying a warm laugh together.
As the election season heated up last August, Hillary said that she thought it would be “fun” to attend Trump’s third wedding, saying:
‘I didn’t know him that well,’ she said last year. ‘I mean, I knew him. I knew him and I happened to be planning to be in Florida, and I thought it’d be fun to go to his wedding because it’s always entertaining.’
The National Archives, which are responsible for operating the library and handling the records, says that it located 59 photos of Hillary Clinton at a New York fundraiser that Donald Trump also attended in August of 1994. Archive officials said the images are ‘personal records’ and will not be released.
The Clinton and Trump campaigns have yet to respond regarding the images released on Friday. Check back here for updates on this story.
