Local news outlets are reporting that police have an arrest warrant out for Trump supporters who punched a 69-year-old woman at one of the GOP nominee’s rallies.
The police say five people were arrested at Monday’s rally, and they have a warrant for two other people involved in the incident. One of the men is Richard Campbell, but the other hasn’t been named.
Shirley Teter, the woman who was physically assaulted at the Trump rally, has been an activist her whole life and said she couldn’t simply ignore Trump.
‘Why did I get involved yesterday, at my age? Because I ran into another situation that was sickening my heart’
Teter said the protest started peacefully. She said she met with Trump supporters prior to the event and then described the situation as kind of amusing.
‘Whenever groups of them would start chanting “Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump!” I would chant back, ‘Dump, dump, dump, dump.” It was kind of comical’
Teter said the event turned violent when she made comments regarding the GOP nominee’s close ties to Russia and Vladimir Putin.
‘I said “you better learn to speak Russian,” and I said “the first two words are going to be, ha ha.” He stopped in his tracks, and he turned around and just cold-cocked me.’
Teter was then taken to the hospital, but luckily she had no major injuries and seems to be recovering. Teter expressed gratitude for those who wished her well and said she had one more thing to say regarding the incident. She wanted to know if people think the man who punched her was deplorable.
Her comments were likely a reference to when Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton said that half of of her opponent’s supporters fit into a “basket of deplorables.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that violence has broken out at a Trump rally. There have been numerous reports of violence at his rallies. In fact, this wasn’t even the only violent incident to occur that night. It’s been reported that another man has been arrested for a separate incident of assault at the Asheville rally.
The worst part of this is that Trump seems to encourage such violence. He’s openly talked about protesters being carried out on stretchers and has promised to pay the legal fees for those who engage in violence on his behalf.
