Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, went so off the rails while appearing Friday evening on a panel hosted by CNN host Don Lemon that Lemon had to shut down the panel.
Lemon’s panel was discussing – or, rather, trying to discuss – Donald Trump’s leadership of the “birther” conspiracy theory movement which long claimed that President Obama was not born in the United States.
While making a Friday morning statement acknowledging that Obama, was, in fact, born in the United States, Trump regurgitated another old lie, claiming that Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential primary campaign was the source for the theory.
Lemon tried to read a statement from the Clinton campaign to his four panelists Friday night asserting that Clinton, in fact, never had anything to do with the assertion that Obama was not born in the United States.
The key word in the preceding paragraph is “tried.” Lemon asked Lewandowski repeatedly to pause his remarks so that Lemon could read the statement, but it was all to no avail. Lewandowski simply repeated over and over that his former boss bore no responsibility in the birther conspiracy.
Lemon ended up having to ask management to cut Lewandoswki’s microphone and camera so that Lemon could read off the Clinton campaign statement.
When the camera turned back on the former Trump campaign manager, his mouth was still moving.
To top it all off, after Lemon asked Lewandowski why Trump wouldn’t acknowledge that “birtherism” was a fraud at the outset, Lewandowski responded by stating that Obama should apologize to Trump for the “incendiary things” he has said.
‘Look, when is Barack Obama going to apologize to Donald Trump for all the incendiary things he’s said? Are we holding the president accountable?’
Curiously, Friday’s incident with Lewandowski isn’t the first time that Lemon has confronted an uncooperative right-wing mouthpiece.
Back in mid-July, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin’s Sheriff David Clarke appeared on Lemon’s show and turned a discussion of condolences for fallen police officers into a Black Lives Matter bash-fest. When Lemon tried to reign in Clarke’s almost incoherent rambling, the Sheriff only went on and on, ranting against the “hateful ideology” of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Lewandowski, of course, has already well established himself as a disturbingly “passionate” person, having assaulted a female Breitbart reporter earlier this year. That incident helped push his termination. Donald Trump is on his second campaign manager now since Lewandowki left the campaign.
