Donald Trump has been caught in yet another misinformed, nearly incoherent ramble that turns out to be completely false. Trump was in regular form Thursday when he commented on the Ford Motor Company’s upcoming move to Mexico. Trump said this about the “move” he knew nothing about:
“[Ford will] fire all its employees in the United States.”
There’s just one problem with that. Ford is not relocating to Mexico. However, a new plant is being built in Mexico to add to the numerous plants already in the United States. Ford also has a plant located in Ontario, Canada, but Trump didn’t seem to mind that.
Unlike Trump, who does nothing but speak out against outsourcing when every single bit of his merchandise is made in another country, Ford says they aren’t going anywhere. Ford spokeswoman, Christine Baker, had this message for Trump and his cronies:
“Ford has been in the United States for more than 100 years. Our home is here. We will be here forever.”
Ford’s U.S. employment rate is actually up 50 percent, from 28,000 to 85,000 being employed just within the last 5 years. The Mexico plant, that will open in 2018, will only hire 2,800 Mexican residents.
Trump continued to embarrass himself by assuming that he would be able to remedy this issue if he were elected president. Trump said he would ensure that a 35 percent tax rate be added to every single Mexican-made vehicle entering the U.S., and that alone would leave Ford with no other choice but to move back to America.
I’m telling you, he just makes this stuff up as he goes.
The CEO of Ford, Mark Fields, had this to say about Trump’s epic blunder that will surely be overlooked by his followers:
“It’s really unfortunate when politics get in the way of the facts.”
When asked if the Ford Motor Company would be firing Americans in order to hire Mexican employees, Fields said this:
“Absolutely not. Zero. Not one job will be lost. Most of our investment is here in the US. And that’s the way it will continue to be.”
Fields went on to explain that Ford has contracts with all of its employees that protect them from this very thing. Those contracts promise that American employees will never be displaced because of company outsourcing. Ever.
