Superstar producer, director, and writer for The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon is rallying a list of A-List celebrities to launch “Save the Day.”
Save the Day is a new super PAC headed by the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and will involve some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
After a 19-month hiatus from Twitter, the creative force behind some of TV and cinema’s greatest hits has returned with a mission to get people out to vote in order to save the world from the horrors of a Donald Trump presidency.
He has also launched a Facebook page to promote his series of Public Service Announcements encouraging Americans to get out and vote for Hillary Clinton.
After dumping Twitter and deleting his account after the release of his second Avengers movie, Whedon appeared out of the blue on Wednesday morning with the following tweet:
‘Hey! Did I miss anything? Lol jk the world is on fire ? here’s a thing I made’

Among the superstars involved in the project are Robert Downey Jr., Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, Scarlett Johansson, and many more. The PAC’s website says:
‘We are a short-form digital production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act. That every voice in this wonderfully diverse nation should, and must, be heard. That the only thing that can save democracy is the act that defines it. We are committed to fighting the apathy, cynicism, and honest confusion that keeps citizens from using their vote. And to reminding an increasingly out-of-touch and compromised set of representatives that they are answerable to the people they were hired to serve.’
The PAC’s first video is imbued with Whedon’s wit and humorous style and mocks itself as another celebrity cause:
‘You only get this many famous people together when the issue is one that truly matters to all of us.’
It then goes on to describes such causes, like diseases, an ecological crisis or:
‘A racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society.’
The first video from Whedon and his stable of superhero stars opens with Robert Downey Jr. saying:
‘Tuesday, November 8, this country will make one of the most important decisions in its history…’
Other actors are shown, following along with the script
‘You have a chance. You have an obligation to be a part of that decision
‘You might think it’s not important. You might think you’re not important. But that’s not true.
‘And the only way we can prove that to you is by having lots of famous people — lots of famous people — lots and lots of famous people — just a shit ton of famous people — repeating how important it is.’

The first post to the project’s Facebook was Whedon and actor Mark Ruffalo
In addition to bringing us sci-fi Western, Firefly, Whedon is a well-known liberal and has never been quiet about his political opinions. He spoke out against Mitt Romney in 2012, claiming that Romney as president would:
‘Finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse…
‘The 1 percent will no longer be the very rich — it’ll be the very fast.’
