Kellyanne Conway told Fox’s Megyn Kelly Donald Trump was very “gracious” towards Hillary Clinton during Monday night’s debate. Yet Hillary Clinton trashed him and came out smelling like a rose, she complained. Trump “came prepared” to say all this “rough stuff,” but didn’t, out of respect for the Democratic candidate’s family being there.
Megyn Kelly wasn’t having it and gave a skeptical side-glance, but Trump’s campaign chair soldiered on. Hilary Clinton’s running some “not nice” ads, Kellyanne Conway indignantly told her. Megyn Kelly then smacked her upside the head six ways till Sunday with a reality check. Because seriously, what planet is Conway living on?
On Wednesdays’ edition of The Kelly File, Megyn Kelly acted like a real, actual journalist and pushed Kellyanne Conway for answers. Why was her boss so unprepared for the first presidential debate? What will he do to improve his performance? And why did a swaggering, misogynist bully like Donald Trump let himself get beaten by a girl?
As Megyn Kelly pointed out, the 2016 presidential election is a tight race and Donald Trump is losing ground.
‘[Many] Trump campaign advisers [are] saying he needs to do things differently, because he didn’t take advantage of many opportunities to hit her on many vulnerable issues and this is a very tight race. Missed opportunities are costly.’
But Kellyanne Conway protested that mean old Hillary Clinton has taken advantage of Mein Trumpf’s non-existent graciousness.
‘Also, I think he’s gotten very little credit, Megan, for how gracious he was in the beginning and at the end of the debate.’
Trump’s spokeswoman even angled for some sympathy from her fellow Republican and fellow woman.
“At the end of the debate, after she tried to rough him up over a couple comments he’s made over 25 years or so [ago] with respect to women. He said, “I came prepared to say some rough stuff, but I won’t do it because your family’s here and your daughter’s here. But it’s not nice that you’re running hundreds of millions of dollars in negative ads against me.”
Megyn Kelly stopped just short of rolling her eyes, and interjected, “Kellyanne, come on.” She then took Kellyanne Conway to the woodshed with a crash course on how political ads work.
‘Because there are two facets of a campaign! You know that better than anybody. You hit your opponent and disqualify him or her and then you sell your own vision. I mean, she’s allowed to hit him with negative ads and he should be hitting her right back, should he not?’
But what would Donald Trump know about campaign ads? As of August 6th, he still had spent exactly zero money on advertising.
And what about all those misogynist comments Donald Trump has leveled at women over the years, including Carly Fiorina and Megyn Kelly herself? Kellyanne Conway defended her boss by shrugging off what she claims were a “few comments about women over the years.”
And then Megyn Kelly ripped her to shreds.
‘You know that’s not true. You know he has repeatedly made comments about women. About their looks, about their size, their weight. Even in this campaign, about Carly Fiorina’s face, retweeting a negative picture about Heidi Cruz’s face, criticizing Hillary Clinton and her ‘look.’ And, Kellyanne, this is an issue for him.’
