During the final presidential debate, alleged unregistered sex offender Donald Trump refused to say whether or not he would accept the results of the presidential election. This has led many people, including some within his own party, to criticize Trump.
One of those people was the actress and comedian Bette Midler who sent out a tweet mocking Trump for his apparent refusal to accept reality.
‘Trump sez he may not accept election results if he loses. I don’t accept my ass, but guess what’s stuffed in the back of my pants right now’

She is certainly correct that Trump’s whining won’t change the results of the election. If Clinton earns more votes then she will be president regardless of how much Trump wishes otherwise. There are many people who believe that George Bush’s victory in 2000 was illegitimate, but that didn’t change the fact that he still became president.
Midler’s tweet is certainly amusing and accurate to an extent, but we believe that Trump’s actions, regardless of the outcome of the election, are still worth discussing.
The GOP nominee’s refusal to accept the results of the presidential election is both unprecedented and dangerous. At a time when America is more divided than at any point in recent history, we cannot afford to have a major party’s nominee openly challenge the legitimacy of our democracy. Trump’s actions underscore one of the key components of our society: the peaceful transfer of power.
Pursuing a recount of a particularly close state, as Gore did in Florida during the 2000 election, is one thing. But the alleged unregistered sex offender seems to be saying that, regardless of how clear the vote is, he’ll refuse to accept Clinton’s legitimacy. It’s entirely possible that Trump is simply planning on using this as a way to jumpstart his theoretical TV network, but his motivations simply do not matter. He is undermining the foundations of our democratic system in order to protect his fragile ego and that is simply unacceptable.
At this point, it’s looking like Trump could lose by a landslide and still claim the election was rigged against him, but, regardless of his whining, we urge everyone to go to the polls and make your voice heard. If we want to prevent the rise of yet another Donald Trump then we need to send a clear message that his behavior is unacceptable.
