With election day only a few days away, some of the biggest names in hip-hop came out to encourage voters to get out and vote for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, held a free campaign concert for the candidate on Friday night at Cleveland State University in Ohio.
The event was aimed mainly to gain support from millennial and African-American voters in Ohio, and also featured performances by Chance the Rapper, Big Sean, and J. Cole. The majority of the crowd were in their 20s and 30s and prominently African-American. Even a few Trump supporters showed their faces, but only because they wish their candidate was liked well enough to have musicians perform at his campaigns.
Beyoncé took the stage after singing her hit “Formation,” and explained the importance of a Clinton presidency:
‘There was a time when a woman’s opinion did not matter. Less than 100 years ago women did not have the right to vote. Look how far we’ve come from having no voice to being on the brink of making history. Again. By electing the first woman president. Yes! But we have to vote.’
Without mentioning his name, Jay-Z had a few choice words for Hillary’s rival, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump:
‘This other guy I have no ill towards him. He is divisive so he cannot be my president, he cannot be my president. Once you divide us you weaken us.’
An enraged Donald Trump couldn’t hide his jealousy that the biggest power couple in hip-hop held a concert for his opponent. With obvious self-pity in his voice, the orange one said to his Pennsylvania audience on Friday night:
‘Look at this. I hear we set a new record for this building And by the way, I didn’t have to bring J-Lo or Jay-Z, the only way she gets anybody. I’m here all by myself. I am here all by myself. Just me. No guitar, no piano, no nothing.’
Yes, Donald, everyone knows that you are all by yourself and it’s because nobody wants to campaign with you. Aren’t you the candidate who promised to run a campaign full of stars and winners, yet you haven’t had anyone? Nobody likes you Trump, just face it.
