A GOP US Representative has been hit with a pending FBI investigation into possible usage of a private email for the transmission of classified information.
The bitter irony is that Chaffetz is one of the Congressional Republicans most intimately involved with the Congressional component to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s usage of a private email server while she served as Secretary of State.
This Clinton email “investigation” has long turned into nothing more than an elaborate smear campaign, since Clinton has long been cleared of any actual wrongdoing for which legal recourse is appropriate.
Actual legal precedent, however, has been tossed to the side as Congressional Republicans, led in part by Chaffetz, have beaten the drum that Clinton broke the law and sent classified information over her private email server, something which there remains no actual evidence that she did.
The latest new component to this investigation is the recent hyped up annoucement- spearheaded by Chaffetz himself- that the FBI was “re-opening” their foray into the Clinton email investigation. Such a claim, however, is a grossly exaggerated form of a simple mundane development in the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s emails.
All the while, Chaffetz himself has possibly been doing the exact thing of which he and his colleagues accuse Clinton.
The complaint prompting the pending investigation into the US Representative was filed by the Democratic Coalition Against Trump, the grassroots arm of the Keep American Great PAC.
As the Coalition wrote in a press release:
‘The Democratic Coalition Against Trump reported Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) to the FBI on Wednesday morning for possibly breaking Executive Order 13526 and 18 U.S.C. Sec. 793(f) of the federal code, which makes it unlawful to send or store classified information on a personal email.’
Their filing was apparently prompted, at least in part, by the fact that Chaffetz lists a Gmail address on his official Congressional business cards.
The coalition’s Scott Dworkin spoke to the group’s move against Chaffetz, saying:
‘The mishandling of classified information that concerns the national security of our nation is something that the FBI takes very seriously. The irony is unparalleled- Representative Chaffetz, the person who led the charge against Secretary Clinton’s personal email server use, could actually be the one who is breaking the law and putting our national security at risk in the process.’
What the Coalition’s FBI complaint against Chaffetz underlines is simple.
Although the various sides to the Clinton email investigation are compelling, and have even in some cases come along with significant hits on Clinton’s standing in poll and electoral college numbers, nothing can erase the fact that the recently revealed symbol of exactly what the Republican Party actually stands for is Donald Trump.
The GOP is the Party of the sexism, racism, and sickening predisposition towards violence that Donald Trump flaunts. No amount of “Congressional investigations” can make this fact suddenly not a fact. The Democratic Coalition Against Trump has made this well known by flipping the Clinton email investigation around and pointing it right at Chaffetz.
