BREAKING: ACLU Announces MASSIVE Legal Action Against Donald Trump, Buckle Up

On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Donald Trump became the president-elect of the United States, and women, religious and racial minorities, and members of the LGBT community immediately began to worry about the injustices they may face under President Trump, especially as he is helped along by the Republican-controlled House and Senate. Fortunately, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has a message for Donald Trump and all those who are concerned about how they will fare under his reign. Their message is simple: “Should President-elect Donald Trump attempt to implement his unconstitutional campaign promises, we’ll see him in court.”

On Wednesday morning, Anthony D. Romero, the ACLU executive director, published a statement directed towards Donald Trump on the organization’s website. Romero began his message by urging Trump to “reconsider and change course on certain campaign promises.” He then went on to list some of the most troubling promises Trump has made, which include the following:

  • Promising to force 11 million undocumented immigrants from the country.
  • Promising to ban Muslims from entering the country and heavily surveilling the ones who reside here.
  • Promising to punish women who have abortions.
  • Promising to reauthorize waterboarding and other forms of torture.
  • Promising to revise the nation’s libel laws, restricting freedom of expression.

Romero called Trump’s proposals “not simply un-American and wrong-headed” but “unlawful and unconstitutional.” He continued, promising Trump that, if he does try to press forward and make good on these promises, he will have to face the ACLU.

‘If you do not reverse course and instead endeavor to make these campaign promises a reality, you will have to contend with the full firepower of the ACLU at every step. Our staff of litigators and activists in every state, thousands of volunteers and millions of card-carrying members and supporters are ready to fight against any encroachment on our cherished freedoms and rights.’

This is not the first time Romero has made such a promise. In July, shortly before Trump became the Republican nominee, Romero wrote an essay warning voters that Trump’s proposed policies “if implemented, would trigger a constitutional crisis.” He then promised that the ACLU would be there to fight for the rights of the American people.

Romero’s statement ends with a promise to be vigilant throughout Trump’s presidency:

‘One thing is certain: We will be eternally vigilant every single day of your presidency. And when you leave the Oval Office, we will do the same with your successor as we have done throughout our nearly 100 years of existence. The Constitution and the rule of law are stronger than any one person, and we will see to that. We will never waver.’
