President-elect Donald Trump fired New Jersey Governor Chris Christie from leading the transition team and replaced him with Vice President-elect Mike Pence. After a meeting with Senate leader Mitch McConnell and Trump, it was clear that Christie was out, but why?

The Christie shake-up happened because he has the whole bridgegate scandal hovering over him, plus he put the father of Trump’s son-in-law in jail. That didn’t exactly endear him to the family. Trump has over 4000 jobs to fill quickly, and 1000 of them need congressional approval.

The transition team provides cabinet-level options for the president-elect to choose from along with suggestions for other crucial posts, the New York Times reported. The fast-track team may have some big news soon, according to a tweet from Trump. He wrote:

‘Will soon be making some very important decisions on the people who will be running our government.’

Christie has been manning the transition team, but Trump’s big win was a surprise to everyone, including the GOP presidential candidate. The win meant that everything became immediately much more serious and on a rapid path.

The president-elect just did not need the drag of Christie’s Bridgegate debacle. The governor just ended a trial where he was charged with closing the hyper-busy George Washington Bridge at Fort Lee in 2013.

The court found two of Christie’s top people guilty, which didn’t bode well for the governor’s ability to pick a transition team. So Trump tapped Pence for his Washington experience and contacts. The executive committee will incorporate members of Congress as well as others to advise Pence.

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, retired lieutenant-general Michael T. Flynn, and a demoted Christie will vice-chair the transition. Alabama Republican senator Jeff Sessions’ chief of staff Rick Dearborn will also go from the Trump campaign Washington office to manage the transition office. He replaces Christie’s man Rich Bagger.

Then the transition team is laying another group of people beneath the vice-chairs. Top names include the Trump’s three eldest children and son-in-law Jared Kushner, campaign chairman and conspiracy theorist Stephen Bannon, chairman of the Republican National Committee Reince Priebus, and Tennessee’s Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn.

But Trump is also pulling a Republican donor Rebekah Mercer and the co-founder of PayPal Peter Thiel into the group. Without a doubt, those who are on the transition team are members of the Trump campaign’s inner circle. According to the New York Times, those include:

‘David Bossie, the deputy campaign manager; Steve Bannon, the campaign chief; and Hope Hicks, the campaign spokeswoman. Mr. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York and a staunch Trump supporter, arrived (at Trump Tower) just before 10 a.m., a few minutes after Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager. Brad Parscale, the campaign’s digital director, also headed up to the top floors.’

And the speculation continues.
