The House of Representatives has 188 Democrats, and as of today, 169 of them have signed a letter demanding the dismissal of white supremacist and Breitbart Executive Chairman, Stephen Bannon, as the Trump administration’s chief strategist.
Since the announcement of Bannon’s new position, there has been an uproar regarding the highly racist material published by Breitbart. Finally, the president-elect has been called out in a letter that reads:
“IN YOUR ELECTION NIGHT SPEECH YOU SAID ‘NOW IT’S TIME FOR AMERICA TO BIND THE WOUNDS OF DIVISION. IT IS TIME FOR US TO COME TOGETHER AS ONE UNITED PEOPLE.’ UNFORTUNATELY, YOUR APPOINTMENT OF STEPHEN BANNON, WHOSE TIES TO THE WHITE NATIONALIST MOVEMENT HAVE BEEN WELL-DOCUMENTED, DIRECTLY UNDERMINES YOUR ABILITY TO UNITE THE COUNTRY. […]”
“Millions of Americans have expressed fear and concern about how they will be treated by the Trump Administration and your appointment of Mr. Bannon only exacerbates and validates their concerns.”
The letter also expressed concerns after many white nationalists came forward praising the appointment of Bannon. According to Politico:
“The letter notes the praise by white nationalists after Bannon’s appointment was announced Sunday. It ticks off a list of inflammatory Breitbart headlines, including ones that mocked a Republican Trump detractor as a “renegade Jew” and hailed the history of the Confederate flag.”
The question is, why would there be almost 20 House Democrats that didn’t sign the letter?
