A Muslim U.S. Marine is frustrated beyond words with the new anti-Muslim President-elect Donald Trump. So he decided to do something about it. While, politicians hover around the edges of Trump World unwilling or impotent to stand up against Trump, veteran Sergeant Tayyib Rashid showed them what courage and ethics look like.
Trump has insinuated that U.S. Muslims need to carry special identification. Is he unmindful of the ID’s that authorities forced Jews to wear in World War II, those large yellow stars? The next step was sending the identified Jews to concentration camps, where Hitler murdered millions of Jewish men, women, and children. It is a terrifying comparison and an even more terrifying possible reality.
So Rashid alone stepped up when no one else would, in a true expression of bravery. The marine posted a picture of his military ID on Twitter, and wrote:
‘I’m an American Muslim and I already carry a special ID badge. Where’s yours?’

Few would be surprised to learn that the new president-elect never served in the military, even when the Vietnam War was in full force. Money has a way of greasing the path to dodge any military danger.
Like many young men who could afford to go to college, Trump obtained deferment after deferment, four times. When he used up all of those get-out-of-war cards, he went to the family doctor to obtain a medical deferment.
Sure enough, the physician handed him a coveted 1-Y medical deferment for “bone spurs,” which got him out of serving. But 300,000 other young men stood up and walked into a cruel war.
A Gold Star father of a Muslim soldier who died protecting his men from an IED Khizr Khan also stood up to Trump. He claimed Trump sacrificed nothing for his country.
The president-elect couldn’t let it go. He said in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos:
‘I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.’
Now that Trump is on the edge of fulfilling his campaign promise of segregating Muslims with special ID’s, people are fearful. Plus Trump compounds the problem by appearing to fill his cabinet with people who support his anti-Muslim sentiments.
In our country people are riding fear like a powerful gnarly creature that is pulling them into a time of bleak darkness. Sergeant Rashid not only served his country in war, he is serving just as bravely now.
Thank you, Sergeant Rashid.
