On Sunday, the Standing Rock Sioux and their allies celebrated after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that the Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) have to reroute the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) away from the reservation.
Unfortunately, ETP sees a lame duck Obama administration, a swiftly-approaching Trump regime, and flashing dollar signs. They and their merging partner, Sunoco Logistics (SXL), just released statement declaring there’s no way in hell they’re rerouting their pipeline away from the Standing Rock Sioux’s reservation.
‘As stated all along, ETP and SXL are fully committed to ensuring that this vital project is brought to completion and fully expect to complete construction of the pipeline without any additional rerouting in and around Lake Oahe. Nothing this Administration has done today changes that in any way.’
The Free Thought Project points out that part of why the Standing Rock Sioux took such a strong stand is because they’re fed up with the U.S. government exploiting them and breaking treaties.
But pro-fossil fuel Congressman Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) couldn’t care less about the Standing Rock Sioux, even though they happen to be his constituents. Instead, he joined the fray with the kind of unhinged rant only a Republican could come up with.
‘I hoped even a lawless president wouldn’t continue to ignore the rule of law. However, it was becoming increasingly clear he was punting this issue down the road. Today’s unfortunate decision sends a very chilling signal to others who want to build infrastructure in this country…’
Since when does any Republican give a flying fig about infrastructure? Or rule of law, for that matter. Cramer then did what Republicans do when they don’t get their way: Howl about how horrible everything is and blame it all on President Barack Obama.
‘I’m encouraged we will restore law and order next month when we get a President who will not thumb his nose at the rule of law. I feel badly for the Corps of Engineers because of the diligent work it did on this project, only to have their Commander-in-Chief throw them under the bus. But he’s been doing that to the military for eight years, so why not one more time on his way out the door.’
Never mind that with all manner of pending lawsuits against him, President-elect Donald Trump is hardly a paragon of “law and order.” Never mind that as a proponent of “law and order,” Rep. Kevin Cramer should respect that 1851 treaty we signed that protects the Standing Rock Sioux’s land.
Looks like someone‘s a sore loser, as an NBC reporter points out..
