A stunning, star-studded concert designed to troll Donald Trump’s inauguration as the next president of the United States may, in fact, be in the works.
The concert was first mentioned by left wing activist and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, who wrote the following in a December 18 post to his Facebook page:
‘Someone just suggested to me a televised “freedom concert” to air at the same time as the inauguration with huge celebrities like Beyoncé and Jay Z, Madonna, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, and so on… Presto. The Trump inauguration loses all the TV ratings. Basically, no one watches it.’
And his proposal got even more enticing to left wingers as he went on. He added:
‘Even better, the proceeds of the freedom concert go to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Lambda Legal, NAACP, Common Cause, CAIR, IRAP, SPLC, Environmental Defense Fund, Human Rights Campaign Fund, MoveOn, Economic Policy Institute, Inequality Media, and GLAD.’
Reich’s post is below.
Since Reich initially brought up the idea, it has come up in a couple of other places as well.
POLITICO reported recently that Miami-based concert promoter Mark Ross is working on putting together a “a large-scale concert called We The People that would directly compete with Trump’s party.”
And now, a sample flyer for a concert competing directly for attention with Trump’s inauguration is circulating on the web, sporting an impressive list of names as proposed musical acts, including John Legend, Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more.
A copy of the flyer is featured below.
Mind you, this flyer is NOT a confirmation of any lineup or even that any show will even happen. Rather, the now widely circulated flyer can be explained by its accompanying text, which reads, “Please share if you would like to see this concert happen on the same day as the inauguration. It’s as simple as that. #freedomconcert. Poster design/concept by Erik Brown/ FRISK creative.”
Trump, for his part, in an odd development to an already odd enough presidential election cycle, can’t get any celebrities to grace his inauguration in any capacity. No acts have been confirmed for Inauguration Day weekend beyond the Radio City Rockettes, 16 year old America’s Got Talent contestant Jackie Evancho, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
