Following Donald Trump’s shocking election victory, we are getting bombarded with constant aftershocks as Trump appoints his White House staff.
Newest to join his circus is (yet another millionaire): Omarosa Manigault. Manigault first connected with the president-elect as a contestant on “The Apprentice.” Despite getting the boot after nine weeks on the show, Omarosa clawed her way back into his pocket by serving as his Campaign Director of African-American outreach. In December, it was announced that Manigault would again serve Trump as an executive committee member for his transition team.
During the campaign, Manigault’s involvement brought a lot of criticism. Her response via PBS Frontline to these critics gives some insight into why she and Trump likely work well together:
“Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump…It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”
But that comment didn’t really get her critics to back down in the way that she might have hoped. Muscle Company jumped in swinging:
‘I think she meant to say turn around and bend over’

In an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid in April, things still weren’t going very smoothly. Manigault was pressed about her perspective as a woman of color on the endorsement of Trump by the KKK, and his blatant attacks on Mexican-Americans. She responded by saying that with Donald’s growing “revolution”, many people will feel “uncomfortable”.
Given her campaign role, her taking on a position focusing on public engagement seems to make sense. Interestingly, she does have some relevant experience for the position, having worked in the White House in the office of the Vice President (Al Gore) during the Clinton Administration. But let’s not start giving the Donald too much credit, one unnamed Gore staffer claimed:
“SHE didn’t do her job, and it got everybody in trouble”
Cheryl Shavers, the former Under Secretary for Technology at the Commerce Department, also reported in 2000 that “she was asked to leave as quickly as possible, she was so disruptive”.
And it seems her appointment is even getting criticism from the Republican camp. Twitter user StrongWomenLoveTrump joined the discussion with resounding disapproval:
Don't do it! Omarosa Manigault hired for Trump's White House is the only decision so far I disagree with https://t.co/5dctZwKhiQ

In response to the appointment, Omarosa claims she has made many sacrifices and is willing to make more “to serve my country”. She touts that her 17 months of commitment meant sacrificing time at her church, and as a reserve chaplain.
Well… with stellar character and glowing recommendations like that, how could we be anything but pleased with her appointment? In the words of Shawn Anderson:
‘…We’re through the Looking Glass, people.”
Omarosa failed to win The Apprentice TWICE…and now she's going to work in The White House. We're through the Looking Glass, people.
