BuzzFeed recently released a document alleging to prove Donald Trump’s ties to Russia. The document, which was unverified, has set off a media firestorm and the president-elect has repeatedly denounced it.

Early this morning, he took to Twitter in order to inform his readers that James Clapper, current head of U.S. intelligence, had told him the documents were a lie.

‘James Clapper called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated. Made up, phony facts.Too bad!.’

As is usually the case with Trump, the above statement is not entirely accurate. While speaking to POLITICO, Clapper did admit to being frustrated by the leaks.

‘I expressed my profound dismay at the leaks that have been appearing in the press, and we both agreed that they are extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security.’

However, Clapper also stated that the U.S. intelligence community had made no judgments regarding the validity of the documents.

‘I emphasized that this document is not a U.S. Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC. The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions’

The fact that the intelligence¬†community did not rely on the documents is not the same thing as them determining¬†they were false. This tweet is just another example of Trump’s attempts to mislead his supporters.
