It looks like President-elect Donald Trump may have an inauguration concert after all. However, with the lack of support from A-list celebrities and popular musicians, the acts will be about a C-grade.
According to CNN, the inaugural committee has managed to secure performances by country star Toby Keith, rock band 3 Doors Down, and the guy who sings “God Bless the USA” (Lee Greenwood).
Compared to President Obama’s first inauguration, the lineup seems pretty dismal. Obama had big names like Garth Brooks, Usher, Jon Bon Jovi, and more. However, the chairman of the Presidential Inaugural Committee said it will be a celebration of American history.
‘President-elect Trump has made it clear that this inaugural is of, by, and for the American people. The 58th Inaugural will celebrate American history and heritage, while setting the course to a bright and bolder future for all Americans. Above all, it will serve as tribute to one of our greatest attributes, the peaceful transition of partisan power.’
Hopefully, no one choked while reading that.
Jon Voight will also be making an appearance. Other acts will include Jennifer Holliday, The Piano Guys, RaviDrums, and The Frontmen of Country.
The rock band, 3 Doors Down, enjoyed mainstream success between 1999 to 2004 with major hit singles such as “Kryptonite,” “Loser,” and “Be Like That.” Not so much lately, however.
Country music artist Toby Keith’s career started in the early ’90s with his No. 1 hit “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” He’s also known for the song “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,” which he has performed several times for soldiers at military concerts. He’s also known for showing a backdrop with Dixie Chicks member Natalie Maines and Saddam Hussein after she called “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” ignorant.
To top it off, he’s known for the song “Red Solo Cup” which includes the lyrics, “Red Solo cup / I fill you up / Let’s have a party” and “‘Cause when beer runs down the front of my back / Well that my friends is quite yucky.”
He also one time expressed his admiration for Sarah Palin.
Lee Greenwood is basically the country music star that no one really knows except for being the “God Bless the USA” guy. Though he has enjoyed No. 1 hits, still, he’s the “God Bless the USA” guy. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to a six-year term as a member of the National Council on the Arts.
The concert is being called “The Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” and will take place on Jan. 19.
