Bernie Sanders Makes FBI/Comey Announcement That Has Republicans Fuming (VIDEO)

In a one-on-one interview with ABC’s This Week, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said that it “would not be a bad thing for the American people” if FBI Director James Comey steps down from his position.

Sanders spoke to George Stephanopoulos on Sunday’s show, telling him he believes Comey acted in an “outrageous way” and “should take a hard look at what he has done.”

“His behaviour during the campaign in terms of what he said during the week or two before the election was unacceptable,” he added.

Last week, the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General announced that it will investigate the actions taken by the FBI and the Department of Justice leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

In a letter to lawmakers just ahead of the presidential election, FBI Director James Comey claimed he had obtained additional information regarding Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

Just days ahead of Election Day, however, he announced that the FBI found no new evidence suggesting any wrongdoing on Clinton’s part.

Sanders also went on to point out that “it is interesting that [Comey] is not doing investigations about the possible tie-in between Trump’s campaign and the Russians.”

Later on in the interview, Sanders was asked about Trump’s latest comments regarding Congressman and civil rights legend, John Lewis. Trump’s comments were a response to the comments Lewis made on Friday, when he suggested possible Russian interference in the presidential election made Trump an “illegitimate president.” When asked if he agreed with his Lewis’ claim, Sanders said:

‘What Cory Booker and John Lewis are right about is to talk about the racist past of Donald Trump. We all remember that Trump was one of the leaders of the so-called “birther movement” trying to delegitimize the presidency of our first African-American President, Barack Obama, which is an outrage.’

Moving on, Sanders told ABC’s This Week that the focus for now should be on holding Trump accountable.

‘So right now I think the focus has got to be on how we hold Trump accountable. What he has been doing in the last week — attacking Hollywood actresses for criticizing him — I mean, what world is this guy living in?’
