According to reports, President Trump has yet another grotesque executive order up his sleeve. Unsurprisingly, the new executive order is yet another attempt to target immigrants, rip apart families, and unjustly discriminate against individuals for their personal beliefs.
The new order doesn’t just target undocumented immigrants — but also millions of legal immigrants.
According to Vox, one of the additional orders addresses work visas and the other will challenge social services received by immigrants living in the U.S. legally. The pending order regarding social services is going to be a much larger blow to legal immigrants, more so than any other document that Trump has signed thus far.
Legal immigrants will now face deportation as well as having their social services taken away. These are the same legal immigrants the GOP “favors” and uses as an example when discussing illegal immigration. Now even the legal immigrants, who have previously been protected, are at risk of being deported by the Trump administration.
Without hesitancy, a member of the Trump administration admitted the end goals for the travel ban are to first, decrease the current population of Muslims and secondly, to prevent further growth of the Muslim population.
The Muslim population may be at the top of Trump’s list, but the Hispanic population isn’t far behind them.
Jamelle Bouie, the chief political correspondent for Slate Magazine and political analyst for CBS News, summed it up on Twitter.
The Post explained another section of the revealed order. Trump’s administration members are attempting to “deny admission to any alien who is likely to become a public charge” and develop guidelines for “determining whether an alien is deportable … for having become a public charge within five years of entry” — such as receiving set limit of public assistance, including Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Medicaid.
The upcoming executive orders follow the naming of Steve Bannon as Trump’s senior advisor, who has a background of controlling a white nationalist website and berating Muslims and minorities. The bans are an obvious correlation with Bannon’s rising presence in the White House.
