Thousands of angry people stood outside Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s Brooklyn luxury home Tuesday night. They loudly protested the Democrats’ weak response to Donald Trump’s cabinet and Supreme Court nominees. Demonstrators spilled into the streets demanding their senator work for them.
A 40-year-old soccer coach from Flatbush held a sign showing a giant eye in the pulsing crowd of 3000. The New York Post reported he said:
‘Senator Schumer needs to know we’re watching him. He works for us. We need him to be bold. We need him to stand up to Trump and oppose his picks.’
Schumer voted yes on Trump’s Department of Defense James Mattis, Department of Homeland Security General John Kelly, and the Central Intelligence Agency [CIA] Mike Pompeo.
Schumer claimed he would oppose Betsy DeVos for Education Secretary, Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, Jeff Sessions for Attorney General, and five others.
Elizabeth Zeldin, 37, told the New York Post:
‘This is going to be a long fight, a tough fight, and [Schumer] can’t revert to deal-making mode. He needs to tough it out.’
The protesters chanted “Resist Trump,” “Show Some Spine Schumer,” “stay strong Chuck,” and “shut it down, shut it down, New York is an immigrant town.”
Alia Hannah, 39, likes parts of Schumer’s actions:
‘I think he started out being more compromising than any of us liked, but I think he’s been pushing hard in the last couple days.’
Amid chants of “Filibuster every bill! Filibuster everything!” and “Chuck, Chuck, don’t sell us out, we need a fighter to knock Trump out!” a labor union leaders said:
‘Make some f***ing noise!’
Another protester Jennifer Fragale said:
‘I feel like now is the time for our voices to be heard Patch [New York.] I think he’s in a tough positionbut he needs to stand up for his constituents. I would like him to restore some, sanity to our government. It’s only been eight days, and we’ve lost it all.’
As the crowd grew in size, their chants grew louder:
“Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go!” “Resist or resign!” “You have a mission! Lead the opposition!”
Schumer had this to say about Trump’s new choice for the Supreme Court:
‘Given his record, I have very serious doubts about Judge Gorsuch’s ability to meet this standard. Judge Gorsuch has repeatedly sided with corporations over working people, demonstrated a hostility toward women’s rights, and most troubling, hewed to an ideological approach to jurisprudence that makes me skeptical that he can be a strong, independent Justice on the Court.’
Cambra Moniz-Edwards, 35, said:
‘He’s talking the talk on social media, but is he walking the walk? What the f–k, Chuck?!’
America is speaking, and Schumer appears to be listening.
