JUST IN: Lawmaker Files Bill Requiring Psychiatrist At The White House (FULL DETAILS)

Less than one month into his presidential tenure, Donald Trump has already managed to cause Congress to believe he’s mentally unfit for the presidency.

So much so, in fact, that Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) has taken matters into his own hands and is planning to introduce new legislation that would require a psychiatrist at the White House.

According to Lieu, who says he and his colleagues are concerned about President Trump’s mental health, any president should have access to mental health services such as an on-site psychiatrist.

In 1928, Congress passed a law requiring a physician at the White House, but according to The Huffington Post, a psychiatrist wasn’t included because of the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Speaking about the new legislation, which could be introduced as soon as next week, Lieu maintains he’s “looking at it from the perspective of, if there are questions about the mental health of the president of the United States, what may be the best way to get the president treatment? We’re now in the 21st century. Mental health is just as important as physical health.”

Lieu believes President Trump’s mental health is specifically troubling, however, because of his obvious “disconnection from the truth.”

‘It is not normal for the president of the United States, within 24 hours, to write about death and destruction and fake news and evil. The most troubling aspect of this is it is very clear he has a disconnection from the truth. … The very first press conference he had in this administration, they could have talked about jobs or health care. They talked about crowd size. And then lied about it. It’s one of the most bizarre events I’ve witnessed in politics.’

And he’s not wrong. Trump has a nasty habit of taking to Twitter to disparage anyone who dares to disagree with him. Here are just a few examples:

‘Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting.’

‘I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it. Some FAKE NEWS media, in order to marginalize, lies!’

‘The failing @nytimes writes total fiction concerning me. They have gotten it wrong for two years, and now are making up stories & sources!’

‘The failing @nytimes was forced to apologize to its subscribers for the poor reporting it did on my election win. Now they are worse!’

Lieu argued:

‘His disconnection from the truth is incredibly disturbing. When you add on top of that his stifling of dissent, his attacks on the free press and his attacks on the legitimacy of judiciary, that then takes us down the road toward authoritarianism. That’s why I’ve concluded he is a danger to the republic.’
