It’s going to be a lonely night at the White House when the New England Patriots visit the presidential residence to celebrate their recent Super Bowl win. There are going to be a lot of empty seats.
A fourth Patriots player has just announced that he plans to snub Trump’s assumed invite to the White House on account of his team’s Super Bowl win. The Patriots came back from a historic deficit in the first half to clinch the Vince Lombardi trophy on the 51st time it was awarded. It was the team’s fifth Super Bowl win ever, while their opponents this time around, the Atlanta Falcons, have only been to the Super Bowl a total of two times.
The latest Patriots player to announce his plans to skip the White House party is defensive end Chris Long, who wrote on Twitter in response to an article calling on him to join a few of his other teammates in staying away from the White House that such was already his plan.
You can check out his tweet below. The article that he is replying to is from the New York Daily News.
The other three Patriots players who have announced their plans to forego visiting Trump’s White House are linebacker Dont’a Hightower, defensive back Devin McCourty and tight end Martellus Bennett.
McCourty told TIME Magazine:
‘I’m not going to the White House. Basic reason for me is I don’t feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won’t.’
Ironically, the only issue at play here isn’t that pro football players who are members of minority communities have issue with a historically anti-minority president.
On top of that, the New England Patriots’ Quarterback, Tom Brady, and the team’s Head Coach and Owner are all avid Trump supporters. Thus, going into the Super Bowl, the Patriots’ were already garnering a sort of side eye from left leaning football fans.
Although they call us the snowflakes, Breitbart News evidently couldn’t handle this, running a story shortly after the Super Bowl that claimed that the “left-wing sports media” was “out for blood” over the Brady- Trump connection.
