A TMZ reporter caught up with a former Professor of the Obamas this week, and he had some interesting words to offer as to his take on the famous First Family.
“You taught Barack and Michelle, [and] I wanted to know, did you sense a spark in Barack, did you sense something special?” the TMZ reporter asked Constitutional Law Professor Charles Ogletree, of Harvard.
“Oh yeah, yeah,” Ogletree replied, nodding his head while continuing on with his walk to wherever he was going.
The TMZ reporter went on, “How so?”
Ogletree continued, “I thought, you know, when I saw him, he was — well first he was speaking too much. He wanted to [talk about] everything. He said, ‘Oh, I can answer that question, Professor.’ I said, ‘Barack, you know I wanted to call on Mary.’ [He’d reply] ‘Mary’s gonna say –‘ I said, ‘Look, let Mary answer.’ He said alright.”
But Ogletree went on to drop the real zinger, saying that he thinks that First Lady Michelle Obama should have been the president and not Barack.
He said, “You know, his wife should have been the president.”
“Why is that? What did you sense as to a difference between the two of them, that she was more presidential then he was?” the TMZ reporter shot back.
Ogletree replied, “I just thought that she was great. He was great too, but she was better.”
The TMZ reporter then asked Ogletree if he thought the White House was within Michelle’s sights, to which he replied, “Yeah, I think she could easily be president, but I don’t think she will.”
For her part, the First Lady has made no indications that she ever intends to follow in her husband’s footsteps and launch a bid for the White House. She’s been egged on to do so for a long time, but she isn’t budging.
As President Obama explained to Jimmy Kimmel late last year, “Michelle was never wild about politics. Michelle once explained to me, “‘I try to organize my life not to have a lot of mess around, and politics is just a big mess.’ ”
