Leak Inside White House Just Stopped Secret Military Operation Against Iran

Despite President Trump’s attacks against White House leakers, it seems they ended up saving his administration from an intense military clash with Iran.

Just one week into Trump’s presidential tenure, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, with support from his colleagues on the National Security Council, was preparing for military action against Iran that could very well have resulted in a naval firefight.

Although the information appears to be old news, it’s just been discovered that White House leaks were what halted what could’ve been a complete national security disaster.

The New York Times wrote a piece detailing the dysfunction and disorganization occurring within the National Security Council.

The article states:

‘Three weeks into the Trump administration, council staff members get up in the morning, read President Trump’s Twitter posts and struggle to make policy to fit them.’

Information from the Times that was easily overlooked, explains:

‘Last week, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis was exploring whether the Navy could intercept and board an Iranian ship to look for contraband weapons possibly headed to Houthi fighters in Yemen. The potential interdiction seemed in keeping with recent instructions from Mr. Trump, reinforced in meetings with Mr. Mattis and Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson, to crack down on Iran’s support of terrorism.’

The Times went on to note, “The ship was in international waters in the Arabian Sea, according to two officials. Mr. Mattis ultimately decided to set the operation aside, at least for now. White House officials said that was because news of the impending operation leaked, a threat to security that has helped fuel the move for the insider threat program. But others doubt whether there was enough basis in international law, and wondered what would happen if, in the early days of an administration that has already seen one botched military action in Yemen, American forces were suddenly in a firefight with the Iranian Navy.”

Reports from 2015 indicate that the Obama administration considered doing what Mattis had explored but later decided against it.

Trump took to Twitter several times over the past week to ransack leakers for giving information to the media:

‘Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?) Just like Russia’

‘The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by “intelligence” like candy. Very un-American!’

‘Leaking, and even illegal classified leaking, has been a big problem in Washington for years. Failing @nytimes (and others) must apologize!’

‘The spotlight has finally been put on the low-life leakers! They will be caught!’
