At today’s installment of the daily White House press briefings, Press Secretary Sean Spicer lashed out at the Anne Frank Center, claiming that nothing is ever “good enough” for them.
Spicer was asked by a reporter this Tuesday afternoon to respond to the comments from the Anne Frank Center on President Trump’s largely impotent response to the increasing waves of anti-Semitism sweeping the United States.
Trump’s statement to which the Anne Frank Center was responding was prompted by the fourth in a series of waves of bomb threats against Jewish Community Centers across the United States.
This time, Trump, instead of simply carrying on with his longstanding practice of simply ignoring tragedies if they don’t fit his agenda, called the bomb threats “horrible” and said that it’s “going to stop and has to stop.”
It’s on the note of ignoring tragedies that don’t fit his agenda that Trump completely ignored the first three waves of bomb threats against JCCs, and it’s also on that note that he completely ignored a recent attack on a Canadian mosque that left half a dozen Muslims dead at the hand of a far right supporter of politicians like France’s Marine Le Pen and Donald Trump himself.
Well, the Anne Frank Center was having none of it, and released their own statement on the matter following the release of Trump’s statement on the bomb threats.
‘The president’s sudden acknowledgement of anti-Semitism is a Band-Aid on the cancer of anti-Semitism that has infected his own administration… His statement today is a pathetic asterisk of condescension after weeks in which he and his staff have committed grotesque acts and omissions reflecting anti-Semitism, yet day after day have refused to apologize and correct the record.’
So, when asked to respond to these biting comments from the Anne Frank Center, White House Press secretary Sean Spicer spoke as follows:
‘The president has made clear since the day he was elected, and frankly going back to the campaign, that he is someone who seeks to unite this country. And it’s something he’s going to continue to fight and make very, very clear that [it] has no place in this administration. But it’s ironic that no matter how many times he talks about this, it’s never good enough.’
It’s never good enough? Are you aware, Mr. Spicer, that the issue we are discussing here is one that led to the murder of over six million people in our parents’ generation?
Well, folks, it’s been nice. We have officially entered the world of who the hell knows what. The White House Press Secretary has lashed out at the Anne Frank Center.
The Anne Frank Center describes itself as an organization that “calls out prejudice, counters discrimination and advocates for the kinder and fairer world of which Anne Frank dreamed.”
