Rather than give a straight answer to anyone’s questions about Trump’s team and their ties to Russian government operatives, the newly-elected president insists that the only story that should matter is that his plans and schemes are consistently being leaked to the press.
On Friday morning, Trump insisted that the news about Jeff Sessions’ lies during his confirmation hearing, when he denied having contact with anyone in the Russian government during the campaigns although he held secret meetings with the Russian ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, was just a “witch hunt.”
The “real story,” according to Trump:
…is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total "witch hunt!"

Trump also insisted during his most recent press conference that while the “leaks are real,” the “news is fake.” While this makes zero sense – the information cannot be both real leaks from the White House and also be fake news – Trump and his team have devised a plan to stop those leaks from getting out.
The plan was immediately leaked to the press.
Steve Mnuchin, the former hedge fund manager turned U.S. Treasury Secretary, warned his staff during their first meeting that “their telephone calls and emails could be monitored to prevent leaks,” and some inside those meetings spoke on the condition of anonymity about their fears of a “witch hunt” after one report went public.
Those working inside federal government agencies reported that they fear retaliation due to leaks of a report that disproves Trump’s insistence that the Muslim travel ban is necessary for public safety.
‘At the Department of Homeland Security, some officials told Reuters they fear a witch hunt is under way for the leaker of a draft intelligence report which found little evidence that citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries covered by Trump’s now-suspended travel ban pose a threat to the United States.’
The public was never supposed to know that the ban is nothing but a political move meant to make Trump look “tough on terror” although the executive order serves little purpose in keeping anyone safe and does nothing more than further vilify those of Islamic faith. In fact, the public is not meant, under the Trump administration, to know anything more than Trump chooses for them to know.
That report was leaked, however, and presented to the public on MSNBC by Rachel Maddow. Trump was reportedly incensed by the news.
While he tries diligently to discredit the media in order to convince his supporters that they’re being lied to by the “biased” news media, it seems that’s the only way voters will ever learn the truth about what’s happening inside the White House.
