Donald Trump is literally the biggest joke ever.
He unveiled a campaign style video ad late this afternoon, which opens with an excerpt from his recent address to Congress. That address was widely praised for being “presidential,” although, honestly, that’s like congratulating someone for doing their job. It’s rather hollow praise at best.
Anyway, the flashy video which Trump posted to his Twitter account this evening begins with him saying:
‘Each American generation passes the torch of truth, liberty, and justice in an unbroken chain all the way down to the present. That torch is now in our hands, and we will use it to light up the world.’
Ok hold up.
First of all, that phrasing with which he ends there is literally so cliched it hurts.
“We’re going to be the light of the world!” That phrase has been being used literally since the Biblical era. Just saying.
Another point is that, if we’re going to go with the cliches, then Donald Trump is doing a really, really bad job of using the “torch of truth” to light up the world. President Trump is a perpetual liar. He’s lied so many times it’s easy to lose count. He reportedly lied dozens of times in his recent address to Congress, for example.
And he wants to talk about holding the “torch of truth”? Seriously?
The video, with audio from his Congressional address, goes on to feature Trump saying that his message of “unity and strength” is one “deeply delivered” from his heart.
The phrase “deeply delivered” definitely employs non-traditional syntax, as is characteristic of Trump’s public remarks.
Again, though, for Trump to talk about fostering unity is similarly ironic to him talking about carrying the “torch of truth.” Trump literally rose to power via fostering disunity. He has gone from promising to carrying out his promise to deport undocumented immigrants en masse from the United States, similarly to how he has recently fulfilled his promise to ban Muslims from entering the United States.
And he wants to talk about unity?
Another thing — why the hell did the Trump team make this thing? He’s the president! He doesn’t need advertising!
